Ensimmäinen syntymäpäivä / First birthday

Kummipojalla oli syntymäpäivä, hän täytti vuoden. Tein hänelle lahjaksi ruokalapun. Tai siis ruokalapun ostin valmiina ja kirjoin siihen nuo smurffikuviot...

My godson had his first birthday. I made him a bib, or rather I bought the bib and stitched the smurfs on it...

Myrskyn jälkeen / After a storm

Eilisiltainen ukkosmyrky kiersi mökkimme, harvoin tähän ihan päälle ukkonen nouseekaan. Mutta jyrinä ja salamointi kuului ja näkyi kauempaakin, monelta suunnalta! Sateiden mentyä ohi päätin hakea kameran ja ottaa muutaman kuvan. Aapo nukkui rauhallisesti terassilla, mutta kun kävelin mökin taakse, se seurasi uteliaana perässä.

Mitä me tehdään? / What are we going to do?

There was a big thunder storm last night, but it was not right above our summer cottage (we rarely get thunder stroms right above, they tend to go around). But we could hear the thunder and see the lightning from almost all around us! After the storm had passed, I went to take some pictures. Aapo was sleeping out on the terrace, but when he saw me walking with the camera, he was curious to see what I was doing.

Alku / A start

Aloitin tämän uuden projektin jo toukokuun lopussa:

Se on mökkiprojektini, eli olen tehnyt sitä vain mökillä viikonloppuisin. Nyt en ole noiden kortti- ja muiden kiireiden vuoksi ehtinyt koskea siihen pariin kolmeen viikkoon, mutta eiköhän se kohta taas pääse esille.


Tämähän on tietysti Spring Time Swirl -huivi (Rav link), jonka Kristel julkaisi toukokuussa KAL:ina, malli löytyy nyt Ravelrystä. Alempi kuva on kakkosvinkin jälkeen, sen jälkeen olen edistynyt jo nelosvihjeeseen.

I started this scaft in May, and it's been my "cottage project". I've knitted it during the weekends at the summer cottage, though not recently due to all the cards that needed finishing :-)

It is Spring Time Swirl (Rav link) that was published in May as a KAL, and can now be found in Ravelry. The last picture is after clue 2, but I'm now knitting clue 4.

Juhannusruusut / Midsummer roses

Tänä vuonna juhannusruusupensaat kukkivat ihan urakalla, täysimmillään hieman juhannuksen jälkeen. En muista koskaan aiemmin nähneeni niitä näin täynnä kukkia.




Olen perinteisesti ottanut kuvia koiristani juhannusruusun juurella. Vanhemmista koirista on varmaan parempiakin kuvia, mutta ei (vielä) digimuodossa... Tässä kuvakavalkadi hauvoistani vanhimmasta nuorimpaan (menetin vanhemmat koirat v. 2007, helmi- ja syyskuussa; Aapo muutti luokseni viime tammikuussa):






Midsummer roses (Rosa pimpinellifolia 'Plena') bloomed like crazy this summer, just after Midsummer. I've never seen so many flowers in them!

I've traditionally photographed my dogs in front of the midsummer roses. I'm sure there are better pictures of my older dogs, they just have not been scanned (yet). The dogs are there from the oldest to the youngest (I lost the oldest in February 2007 and Junior in September 2007, Aapo joined me in January this year).

Korttitehdas / Card factory

Kesäkuussa tehtailin kortteja ihan urakalla. Ensin pääsi kummityttö ylioppilaaksi (hän kutsui meitä juhlimaan viikon kuluttua itse lakituksesta), sitten sai yksi serkku pojan ja parisen viikkoa myöhemmin toisenkin serkun perheeseen syntyi poika; tein vielä jälkimmäisen serkun vanhemmille onnittelukortin, he kun olivat lastenlasta odottaneet niin hartaasti. Vauvaonnittelukorttien mukana meni pienet sukat ja toiseen vielä pikkuriikkiset tumput. Nuo sukathan ovat Tuulan sukat (tunnetaan myös nimellä Junasukat), en valitettavasti löytänyt ohjesivua enää netistä. Tumppujen malli löytyi myös netistä, täältä.

Toisten sukkien väritys muodostui ihan sattumalta. Vanha lanka ei riittänyt molempiin sukkiin, mutta huomasin sen vasta siinä vaiheessa kun olin kutonut ensimmäisestä varren. Sitä ei ollut enää jäljellä niin paljon, että olisin saanut edes varren toiseen sukkaan... Niinpä jatkoin jalkaosaan uudella langalla (sama väri, eri sävy) ja tein sitten toiseen sukkaan varren uudella ja jalkaosan vanhalla langalla.

Ai niin, ja teinhän minä kortin myös työpaikalle henkilölle, jonka kanssa tein pienimuotoista, mutta mukavaa yhteistyötä ja joka siirtyy uusien haasteiden pariin.

In June I made cards and nothing but cards (at least it felt like that :-) First my goddaugher graduated, then a cousin had a baby boy. A couple of weeks later another cousin had a baby boy, too, and I also wanted to make a card for his parents as I knew they had been waiting for a grandchild for such a long time. I also knitted small socks to go with the cards and a pair of tiny mittens, too.

The colours in the other socks happened by chance. I didn't have enough yarn for both socks, and after knitting the cuff of the first sock, I noticed that I didn't have enough yarn to knit the other sock, not even just the cuff with the same colour. So I decided to knit the cuff on the first sock with old yarn and the foot with the new yarn and vice versa on the other sock.

Oh, and I also made a card for a person at work, who is leaving to take another position.

The socks go by the name Tuula's socks, or train socks, and they have such a lovely story. Unfortunately I didn't find the web page anymore.

Kesäpäivä / Summer's day

Lauantain hellepäivää oli mukava viettää rannalla:

En ole innokas auringonottaja, ihoni alkaa punoittaa niin helposti, joten vietin aikaa suojakertoimella varustettuna enimmäkseen varjossa. Mutta nautin täysillä lämpimästä, laiskasta päivästä järven rannalla ja uimassakin oli kiva käydä, monta kertaa. Tämä mökkikuntamme erämaajärven rannalla oleva hiekkaranta on niin ihana.


It was nice to spend a hot day at the beach. I'm not an eager sunbather, my skin rather turns red than tans, so I spent my time mostly protected by a sunscreen and the shade. But I fully enjoyed the warm, lazy day by the lake, it was so nice to go swimming, several times. This beautiful lake, and beach, is situated in the wilderness, in a national park.

Ihana! / So lovely!

Siis tämä pistelijän roskis, jonka sain Ritvalta (hänellä ei ole blogia) viime viikolla! Olen näitä kadehtien katsellut blogeissa, sillä Ritva on tehnyt näitä jo monelle pistelijälle. Tapasimme maaliskuussa ristipistoviikonloppuna Haukiputaalla, ja nyt Ritva halusi yllättää meidät siellä tapaamansa "etelän naiset", Mian, Kirsin ja minut, ikiomilla roskiksilla.

Tämä on niin ihana kaikin puolin, värit, malli, ja käyttöä sille tulee riittämään. Mukana se jo kulkee sinne minne käsityökassinikin...

Kiitos vielä kerran, Ritva, tästä ihanasta yllätyksestä, jonka kruunasi se, että se saapui sattumalta syntymäpäivänäni!


This stitcher's trash bag that Ritva (she doesn't have a blog) sent me last week is just so lovely! I've seen these on many blogs, as Ritva has made them already for all the ladies in her stitching group and for many others, too. The bag is her own design. I met Ritva during the stitching weekend in March, she is such a lovely person. And now she wanted to surprise us "Southern ladies" who she met during the weekend, Mia, Kirsi ja me, with our very own trash bags.

It is so lovely in every way, the colours, the design, and it is going to be in so much use. It will go everywhere in my stitching bag...

Thank you once again, Ritva, for this lovely surprise! And to top it off, it arrived by chance on my birthday!

Happy Midsummer!

Yksivärinen vaihto / Exchange with one colour

Lennun yksivärisessä vaihdossa sain Marjalta näin ihanan paketin:


Upea pussukka ja kaunis rengaskoriste! Tuo koriste on tehty tosi taitavasti yhden yli tiheälle kankaalle, ja on kertakaikkisen kaunis! Ja pussukka on sanoinkuvaamattoman upea! Pidän kovasti molemmista. Kiitos Marja tästä ihanasta paketista!



Oman vaihtoni tein Keijunliljalle. Hän kertoi lempiväreikseen vihreän ja turkoosin, ja yhdeksi lempiaiheekseen iirinkieliset toivotukset. Niillä tiedoilla lähdin sitten suunnittelemaan pakettia. Valitsin pistelyyn Pomme de Pinin käsinvärjätyn langan (Eau d'Ange), josta jätin sinisimmät osat pois. Vaihdon väriksi valikoitui turkoosi, kun löysin Atalien langan sävyyn sopivaa puuvillaista neulelankaa, josta neuloin pakettiin samanväriseksi kaveriksi pienen liinan.


Tekstin pistelyyn löysin netistä, suomeksi se tarkoittaa terveyttä ja siunausta. Mallin kirjaimiin sain täältä (Celtic alphabet genarator). Kehyksen mallin löysin myös netistä, täältä. Pistelin työn yhdellä säikeellä kahden langan yli 36ct pellavakankaalle. Oli tosi mukava suunnitella tätä vaihtoa, josta Keijunlilja ilokseni kertoi pitävänsä kovasti.




I received a lovely lilac package from Marja in a monochrome exchange. The tag is very skillfully stitched over one on a very dense fabric, it's absolutely beautiful! And the small bag is so gorgeous! I like them both a lot! Thank you so much, Marja!

My exchange went to Gloriosa. She told her favourite colours are green and turquoise and that one of her favourite themes is Celtic blessings and wishes. With that information I designed a small hanging for her. I chose Pomme de Pin's handdyed floss (Eau d'Ange; I just left the blue shades out) for the stitching and a turquoise cotton yarn for the knitted doily (the exchange consisted of a monochrome stitching and a surprise of the same colour).

I found the text on the net (it translates as Health and a blessing). The design for the letters came from Celtic alphabet generator. I found the design for the border also on the net, from Stitching the Night Away. I stitched this with one strand over two on a 36ct linen.
