Viimeiset ja ensimmäiset / The last and the first

Varoitus: Perinteiseen tapaan vuoden viimeinen postaus sisältää valtavan määrän kuvia ;-)

Joitakin tänä vuonna valmistuneita pistelyitä on jäänyt esittelemättä, lähinnä siksi, että ne ovat jääneet viimeistelemättä... Laitan niistä tähän kuitenkin kuvat esille, ja toivon, että viimeistelyinto iskee jossain vaiheessa.

Tuossa ensin on kuitenkin kuvat jouluksi tekemistäni lahjoista; kummitytön joulukoriste (Blue Ribbon Designs), serkun tossut sekä vanhemmille menneet kirjanmerkit. Muutama syksyn aikana valmistunut lahja on myös jäänyt esittelemättä. Joulun aikana sain valmiiksi tossut myös itsellenikin sekä jo elokuussa aloitetun Baktus-huivin (se unohtui laatikon syövereihin syksyn ajaksi). Aiemmin syksyllä kudoin itselleni kotisukat. Huivi ja sukat on ihanan pehmeää Tanskan-tuliaislankaa :-)

Some of the finishes from this year have not yet been shown, mostly 'cos I haven't finished them yet... But I'll show you pictures of them now, and hope that the finishing fairy will visit me some time next year.

But first photos of this year's Christmas presents. A Blue Ribbon Designs ornament for my goddaughter, checkered slippers for my cousin and bookmarks for my parents. There's also a couple of other presents from autumn. At Christmas I finished slippers for me and the Baktus scarf that I started already back in August (I forgot all about it in autumn). Earlier in autumn I knitted myself soft warm socks. Both the socks and scarf are knitted from a lovely soft yarn from Denmark (souvenir from my parents during their trip).

Samoin nämä neljälle pistely-ystävälle lahjaksi mennyttä biscornua on viimeistely ja luovutettu eteenpäin lokakuussa. Yhteissynttäreitä silloin viettivät Jaana, Johanna, Niina ja Ressu.

These four biscornus have also been finished and given as a birthday present to four stitching friends in October. Happy birthday, Jaana, Johanna, Niina and Ressu!

Ensimmäinen kutomani tossu oli koekappale, joten sille piti tehdä sitten lopuksi pari, eli sain itsellenikin ihanat tossut. Neljänteen tossuun tuli sitten virheitä, näkyvät kuvassakin...

The first slipper was for practice, so I knitted a pair for it and got wondeful cosy slippers for me as well. The fourth slipper has some mistakes that can be seen on the photo...

Ylläolevat ovat tämänvuotisia ristipistohassutusaloituksia. Kaikkiaan sain valmiiksi kymmenen pistelyä, viisi jäi keskeneräisiksi. Niistä kolmeen en ole koskenut sitten tammikuun... :-)

Vaikka kaikki 2011 hassutukset eivät valmistuneetkaan, lähden mukaan uuteen hassutukseen. Tein sille oman sivun blogiin, linkki löytyy ylälaidasta. Siellä on linkki myös WIPocalypseen, joka toimii mukavasti hassutuksen parina. Hassutteluun on tullut muutama muokattu haaste, ja aionkin osallistua sellaiseen, jossa aloitan 15 uutta työtä kuun 15 ensimmäisen päivän aikana ja loppukuun pistelen vanhempia keskeneräisiä töitä. Alla kuvat suunnitelluista hassutuksista.

Even though I didn't finish all of CJC 2011 starts, I'm going to participate in a new CJC in 2012. There's an own page for it, a link can be found at the top of the page. There's also a page for WIPocalypse, which will work nicely with CJC. I'm going to take part in a modified challenge in which I will start 15 new projects during the first 15 days of the month, and then continue with old wips the rest of the month. Below photos of planned starts.

I might replace one of these with another design, but that remains to be seen.

Kortti / A card

Läheinen työkaveri täytti pyöreitä alkukuusta, ja halusin tehdä hänelle juhlan kunniaksi kortin. Kukkavarret poimin Kirsin ilmaismallista (olen niitä käyttänyt aikaisemminkin), ja kukiksi tein tällä kertaa erikoispistoja.

A collegue at work had birthday at the begining of July and I wanted to stitch her a card. The stems are from Kirsi's freebie (I've used it also earlier) and the flowers are made with specialty stitches.

Touko-kesäkuun vaihteessa ensimmäistä kertaa kukkineet pilvikirsikkapuut (niitähän on kaksi) eivät vielä tee kovin runsasta satoa, tämä on ainokainen löytämämme marja. Mikähän lintu sen ensimmäisenä huomaa ;-)

The pin cherry which bloomed in late May and early June for the first time will not provide a big crop the first year as this is the only berry we've found in the two trees. I wonder which bird will find it first ;-)

Synttäriswappi / Birthday swap

Ristipistoilijat-blogin synttäriswapissa lähetin paketin Tarjalle.

Keräsin pakettiin kesäisiä kukkaisia juttuja.

Atalien malli Eloïse sai seurakseen pistelyssä tarvittavat langat sekä hmm, sattuman oikeusta, parikin vaihtoehtoa kankaaksi, aidan ja pellavan, jotta pistelijällä on valinnanvaraa :-) Laitoin pakettiin myös kukansiemenpusseja sekä aurinkoisia nameja. Kukkia meni myös maljakossa, ne voi käyttää askarteluun, viimeistelyyn tms.

Tämä oli ensimmäinen kerta kun viimeistelin 3D-pistelyn. Alla on se mistä lähdin liikkeelle. Tosi kiva tätä oli tehdä ja yllättävän mukava kootakin :-) Periwinkle muuten tarkoittaa talviota tai pikkutalviota.

Kortiksi pistelin paketin päälle tagin.

In Ristipistoilijat (Cross Stitchers, Finnish blog open for members only) blog's birthday swap I sent a present to Tarja. I collected summer-y, flowery things in the package.

Atalie's design Eloïse was accompanied with floss needed to stitch the design and hmm, by some chance, couple of choices for fabric, aida and linen. I also sent some flower seeds and sunny candy. There were also some flowers in the vase, they can be used for e.g. crafts.

This was the first time I finished a 3D design. There's also a photo of the stitching before I put the vase together. It was really nice to stitch, and surprisingly nice to put together :-) (Photos of periwinkle for those interested here.)

I also stitched a card, the tag that was outside the package.

Äitienpäivä / Mother's Day

Tänä vuonna äiti saikin ranskankielisen kortin, postikorttimuodossa. Malli on Les Grilles de Marysen blogista. Se huokuu ihanaa vanhanajan tunnelmaa. Kortissa on teksti: Äiti on kuin ruusu, joka ei koskaan kuihdu. Kortin taustalle kirjailin pienen ruusun sekä yksinkertaisen onnittelutekstin.

This year my mother received a Mother's Day card in French. The design is from Les Grilles de Maryse's blog and I think that it has a really lovely feeling of old times. The text says: A mother is like a rose that never fades. On the back of the card there's a small rose and text: On Mother's Days 2010.

Postikortti, vol 2 / Postcard, vol 2

Tässä siis Minnalle Pretty exchangesin vaihdossa lähettämäni kortti. Malli on osa Summer Sampleria, Cross Sticheristä (issue 148), pistelty dmc:n langoilla Legacy Linenin 30ct Soft Willow -kankaalle. Ja vaikka nuo lentävät ötökät kovasti näyttävät perhosilta, ne ovat oikeasti ampiaisia...


This is the card I sent to Minna in the exchange organized by Pretty Exchanges. The pattern is part of Summer Sampler from Cross Stitcher (UK), issue 148, stitched with dmc floss on Legacy Linen 30ct Soft Willow. And those flying things are bees, not butterflies...

Korttitehdas / Card factory

Kesäkuussa tehtailin kortteja ihan urakalla. Ensin pääsi kummityttö ylioppilaaksi (hän kutsui meitä juhlimaan viikon kuluttua itse lakituksesta), sitten sai yksi serkku pojan ja parisen viikkoa myöhemmin toisenkin serkun perheeseen syntyi poika; tein vielä jälkimmäisen serkun vanhemmille onnittelukortin, he kun olivat lastenlasta odottaneet niin hartaasti. Vauvaonnittelukorttien mukana meni pienet sukat ja toiseen vielä pikkuriikkiset tumput. Nuo sukathan ovat Tuulan sukat (tunnetaan myös nimellä Junasukat), en valitettavasti löytänyt ohjesivua enää netistä. Tumppujen malli löytyi myös netistä, täältä.

Toisten sukkien väritys muodostui ihan sattumalta. Vanha lanka ei riittänyt molempiin sukkiin, mutta huomasin sen vasta siinä vaiheessa kun olin kutonut ensimmäisestä varren. Sitä ei ollut enää jäljellä niin paljon, että olisin saanut edes varren toiseen sukkaan... Niinpä jatkoin jalkaosaan uudella langalla (sama väri, eri sävy) ja tein sitten toiseen sukkaan varren uudella ja jalkaosan vanhalla langalla.

Ai niin, ja teinhän minä kortin myös työpaikalle henkilölle, jonka kanssa tein pienimuotoista, mutta mukavaa yhteistyötä ja joka siirtyy uusien haasteiden pariin.

In June I made cards and nothing but cards (at least it felt like that :-) First my goddaugher graduated, then a cousin had a baby boy. A couple of weeks later another cousin had a baby boy, too, and I also wanted to make a card for his parents as I knew they had been waiting for a grandchild for such a long time. I also knitted small socks to go with the cards and a pair of tiny mittens, too.

The colours in the other socks happened by chance. I didn't have enough yarn for both socks, and after knitting the cuff of the first sock, I noticed that I didn't have enough yarn to knit the other sock, not even just the cuff with the same colour. So I decided to knit the cuff on the first sock with old yarn and the foot with the new yarn and vice versa on the other sock.

Oh, and I also made a card for a person at work, who is leaving to take another position.

The socks go by the name Tuula's socks, or train socks, and they have such a lovely story. Unfortunately I didn't find the web page anymore.

And here are some knitted and felted flowers, the design (by Anne-Maija Immonen) is from the Novita magazine, Winter 2008 issue. A yellow flower went to adorn the coffin of my uncle's wife. The other flowers will remind me of the truly colourful and talented person who will be deeply missed by her husband, two young children and a big bunch of friends.



Olen minä jotain pientä saanut valmiiksikin.

Tuo Ellen Maurer-Strohin ilmaismallista tehty kortti meni huhtikuussa syntymäpäiväänsä juhlineelle sukulaiselle.

Äitienpäivälahjankin sain valmiiksi, tuon Violariumin ristipistoviikonlopun rasian. Tämä oli ensimmäinen rasia, jonka viimeistelin, mutta ei takuulla viimeinen, oli se niin mukava tehdä! Äiti sanoi tekevänsä tästä korurasian kunhan karkit on syöty.

Kukat puolestaan on kudottu ja huovutettu Novitan talvi 2008 -lehden mallin (suunnittelija Anne-Maija Immonen) mukaan. Ajatus lähti itse asiassa siitä, että halusin kutoa kukan enoni vaimon arkulle, ja sopivaa mallia miettiessäni muistin nähneeni näitä kukkia blogimaailmassa. Niinpä yksi tuollainen keltainen kukka meni koristamaan arkkua. Saman tien valmistin muutaman muunkin kukan, nämä muistuttavat minua siitä värikkäästä, räiskyvästä, lahjakkaasta persoonasta, jonka poismeno jätti ison aukon tähän maailmaan, ja varsinkin enoni ja nuorten serkkujeni elämään.

Returning to 2008

I noticed that I still have some small 2008 finishes to share, these will be last, I promise :-) These two baby gifts (the knitted bunny and a card) were for a friend and a coworker who both had baby boys in July. The friend's baby boy has since become my godson.

And I made this summery ornament from a small design I had stitched some time earlier. The design is part of a freebie design (bookmark), but unfortunately I don't remember where I found it.

Happy New Year!

There's bit over 3 hours left of the old year, so I'd better hurry and show the rest of the finishes of 2008.

I finished the Damier at the end of November. Yay! It turned out so beautiful. The design was published by Les Grilles de Maryse throughout 2008. It is stitched on Silkweaver's 32ct Spanish Moss Belfast linen with DMC floss. I'm planning to finish it as a cushion, hopefully sooner than later :-)


Then I finished Chatelaine's Christmas Mystery V. I took it to framer's right away and got it back just for Christmas. I love how it turned out! The lovely fabric is 28ct English Rose Jazlyn. But it doesn't photograph too well, I'm afraid.

And here's a close-up photo to show the frame better:


After Christmas I finished part 6 of Chatelaine's Mystery XI and moved on to part 7. Hope to share a progress picture of that part soon.


And then some older finishes... I stitched this ornament for a birthday card. It's from Tantes Zolder and stitched using Needle Necessities floss.


During my summer holidays I stitched this summer bag. The bag itself is from Violarium and the model, by Margaret Sherry, from Cross Stitcher magazine, issue 201. It was a lovely project, the materials were easy to carry anywhere I went... :-)


This card was for a cousin's wedding in autumn. The letters are from The World of Cross Stitching magazine, issue 141.


With this, I'm wrapping up 2008 and wish everyone a Happy 2009!
