Nämä valmistuneet työt ovat jääneet esittelemättä kesän ja syksyn aikana. Tässäpä siis mittava ja teksti- ja kuvapläjäys vuoden päätteeksi :-)

Kesällä valmistui saksikoriste. Tein alkukesästä tilauksen Stitching Bits and Bobista, ja lisäsin mukaan tilaukseen myös yhden mystery bits -paketin, kaipasin nääs yllätystä elämääni :-) Paketissa oli monen muun mukavan jutun lisäksi Legacy Linenin 30ct Soft Willow -kangasta, Dinky Dyesin silkkilankaa (Parrot Fish), Westcottin Blooms-sakset ja neuloja. Lanka ja kangas sopivat täydellisesti saksiin, niinpä päätin tehdä niistä saksikoristeen. Mallia mietin pitkään, kunnes päätin valita pari ruutua Isa Vautierin Le Grand Marquirista. Koristeesta tuli kieltämättä aika iso pienille saksille, mutta pidän siitä silti kovasti!



I haven't blogged about these finishes during the summer or autumn, so to end the year, here's quite a lot of photos and some text, too :-)

I stitched and finished a scissor fob during the summer. Earlier in the summer I ordered some charts from Stitching Bits and Bobs, and decided to add a mystery bits package in the order, I wanted some excitement in my life, you see :-) The package contained, among other things, Legacy Linen's 30ct Soft Willow fabric, Dinky Dyes silk floss (Parrot Fish), Westcott's Blooms scissors, and needles. The floss and fabric matched so well with the scissors that I had no other choice but to stitch a fob. It took a while to decide on the pattern, but I finally decided to stitch two designs from Isa Vautier's Le Grand Marquir. The fob is quite big for such small scissors, but I like it anyway!

Syksyllä sain yllätyspaketin Neuleyhdistys Ullalta. Olin osallistunut kesällä yhdistyksen jäsenkyselyyn ja voittanut sen yhteydessä paketillisen lankaa (10 kerää)! Näistä on neulottu jo tumput ja "kalorimetri" minulle ja pipo veljelleni. Kaulahuivi ja toinen pipo ovat suunnitteilla. Malli Give a Hoot -tumppuihin on täältä, Jacques Cousteau -pipoon täältä ja Calorimetryyn täältä.






Some time in autumn I received a surprise package from Neuleyhdistys Ulla (Knitting Association Ulla, who publishes the online knitting magazine Ulla). Earlier in the summer I had answered a member poll, and had won a package full of yarn (10 balls)! I've already knitted mittens and a calorimetry for me and pipo (a hat/cap, whatever you want to call it :-) for my brother and am planning to use the rest to knit a scarf and another pipo... The pattern for the Give a Hoot mittens is from here, for Jacques Cousteau hat from here, and for Calorimetry from here.

Äitini näki neulomani calorimetryn, ihastui siihen ja halusi sellaisen itselleenkin. Niinpä sitten neuloin hänen hankkimillaan langoilla toisen calorimetryn, ja kun lankaa riitti niin teinpä vielä pipon ja tumputkin. Ja jotta kaikki lanka tulisi käytettyä, neuloin jämistä vielä tuollaisen pikkuruisen kaulaliinan... Tumput perusmallilla, samoin kaulaliina, linkit muihin malleihin yllä.

Nuo ihanat isot katajaiset puunapit löysin mökkikuntamme pikkuyrittäjien/tuottajien syysmarkkinoilta.





My mother liked the calorimetry I had knitted for me, so she bought some yarn and asked me to knit one for her too. And as there was enough yarn, I knitted another pipo and mittens, too. And there was still some yarn left to knit the tiny scarf... Mittens are basic design, as is the small scarf, links to other patterns above.

Osallistuin Ristipistoilijoiden blogin syysvaihtoon ja sain Tarjalta aivan ihanan pienen syystaulun. (Tämä on ollut esillä tuolla Ristipistoilijoiden puolella syyskuussa, mutta vielä kertaalleen kiitokset Tarjalle ihanasta vaihdosta, sain muutakin mukavaa, kuten kuvasta näkyy.) Oman vaihtoni lähetin Mialle. Tein hänelle syksyn väreillä biscornun, ja laitoin pakettiin mukaan myös syksyisen väristä lankaa.


I participated in an autumn exchange in Ristipistoilijat blog (open only for members) and received this lovely small ornament from Tarja (I've shown this in September in the blog in question, but thank you once again Tarja for this lovely exchange; as you can see I received other lovely gifts, too). I sent an exchange to Mia. I stitched her a biscornu with autumnal colours. I included some floss with autumn colours in the exchange package.

Tuo Tarjan taulu oli esillä eteisessä siihen asti kunnes sain juuri ennen Halloweeniä Myleneltä hänen bloginsa kuukausiarvonnassa voittamani upean Halloween-koristeen. Halloween-koriste oli sitten esillä siihen asti kunnes se vaihtui joulukoristeeseen...

Tarja's autumn ornament was hanging on the wall in my hall until I received, just before Halloween, this gorgeous ornament from Mylene, as I had won it on the monthly draw she has had in her blog. Thank you, Mylene, it is beautiful, and it was hanging on the wall until I replaced it with a Christmas ornament.

Tämän koristeen tein vanhemmilleni tuparilahjaksi. Vein sen kukan mukana, tikun nokassa olevana koristeena, mutta taustalla on ripustuslenkki, ja nykyisin se roikkuukin seinällä.

This ornament was for my parents house-warming. I attached it to a small stick and gave it with a flower. It can also be hang on the wall (where it  is nowadays :-)

  Ja lopuksi vielä pari koristetta, jotka tein jouluksi serkulleni ja kummitytölleni. Prarie Schoolerin Lumiukon mallin bongasin Srinityn blogin joulukalenterista, toinen on Blue Ribbon Designsin malli v. 2007 joulukuun Gift of Stitching -lehdestä.

And last but not least, the ornaments I stitched for Christmas for a cousin and my goddoughter. I found a link to the Prairie Schooler snowman in Srinity's blog, in her Christmas calendar, the other one is a Blue Ribbon Designs' pattern from Dec 2007 Gift of Stitching magazine.

Joulutunnelmaa ja jotain valmistunutta / Christmas and some finishes

Jouluaattona kävimme viemässä kynttilät isovanhempieni haudoille, ja muistimme myös muualle haudattuja.




Aapon ensimmäinen joulu perheessä sujui mukavasti, ja mieluisia lahjojakin se sai...


Jotain valmistuikin ristipistorintamalla jouluksi. Viimeisen hahmon pistelin aatonaattona ja viimeistelyn tein aattoaamuna. Tämän yksinkertaisempaa viimeistelyä tuskin on!


Nämä tyynynpäälliset olen virkannut jämälangoista (tunnistin sieltä monta villapaitaa ja vastaavaa) joskus yli 20 vuotta sitten :-) Äiti viimeisteli niistä itselleen mieleiset tyynyt tänä vuonna.


On Christmas Eve we visited the graveyard to place candles on my grandparents' graves (all my grandparents are buried in the same graveyard), and remembered also those buried somewhere else. And we were not the only ones...

Aapo's first Christmas with us went quite well, and he received some delicious presents.

Just before Christmas I finished stitching the last of these characters and in the morning on Christmas Eve I finished them as coasters. There couldn't be an easier way to finish stithing!

I have crocheted the pillowcases over 20 years ago, and recognise many of the yarns, I've knitted so many sweaters and such with them... My mother finished them into pillows just this year and she likes them a lot (and so do I).

Turkoosia / Turquoise

Kirsin järjestämän toukokuisen ristipistotapaamisen jälkeen päätin kiittää häntä jollakin itsetehdyllä. Yksivärisestä vaihdosta jäi sen verran Mandarin Petitin puuvillalankaa, että pystyin virkkaamaan tämän pikkuliinan (on muuten ihan selkeästi lempimallini, olen tehnyt näitä vuosien varrella monia). Liinan seuraksi halusin tehdä biscornun. Sen tekeminen viivästyi kesälle, ja viimeistely elokuun lopulle... Mutta pääsinpä samalla kiittämään postikorttivaihdon järjestämisestä, siihen oli tosi mukava osallistua.

Mallit biscornuun ovat ilmaismalleja netistä, luulisin (en millään muista mistä nämä ne löysin), ja pistelin ne 25ct Floballe yhden yli, yhdellä Mandarin Petitin säikeellä, eli biscornu on tehty samalla langalla kuin liina. Tämä on muuten ensimmäinen biscornu, jonka olen tehnyt!


Kirsi organized a cross stitch meeting in May, and I wanted to thank her with something selfmade. I had some Mandarin Petit yarn left over from the monocrome exchange, so I crocheted a small doily (this is my all time favourite pattern, I've crocheted it many, many times). I also wanted to stitch a biscornu to accompany the doily. I managed to stitch it during the summer holidays and finish it at the end of August... But that gave me a chance to also thank her for organizing the postcard exchange. The designs used in the biscornu are freebies, I think (unfortunately I can't remember where I found them), and I stitched them over one on 25ct Floba, with one strand of the Mandarin Petit yarn, so the biscornu and doily are made using the same yarn/floss. This is the first biscornu I've made!

Syyssetti - syksyvaihto, vol 2 / Autumnal set - autumn exhange, vol 2

Ja tässä minun tekemäni setti, lähetin sen Maijalle (ei blogia). Minulla oli pari erikokoista rasiaa, joten päätin tehdä niistä setin. Pienempään rasiaan pistelin Little House Needleworksin Heart & Home Samplerin, koska Maija kertoi pitävänsä mm. LHN:n talomalleista. Malli on pistelty dmc:n langoilla 25ct Floballe yhden yli. Flobaa on paljon kehuttu, eikä suotta. Ihanaa kangasta yhden yli pistelyyn! Koska tämä pienempi rasia on ollut aikaisemmassa elämässään pastillirasia, pistelin sen pohjaan "omistuskirjoituksen".

Isompaan rasiaan valitsin mallin Les Grilles de Marysen blogista vuoden 2007 SAL:in malleista (lokakuun kesämökki). Se on pistelty 32 ct Belfastille (Raw Natural).

Toiseksi setiksi lähetin lankaa ja neuloja. Neulat mahtuivat pienempään rasiaan, langat isompaan (ja mahtui siihen se pienempikin rasia postituksen ajaksi :-)






In the autumn exhange (Autumnal set) organized by Leena, I send the two sets to Maija (no blog). I had two tin boxes, so I decided to stitch tin toppers. For the smaller one I chose a Little House Needleworks design (Heart & Home Sampler) as Maija told that she likes, among other things, the house designs by LHN. I stitched it on 25ct Floba, which is such a wonderful fabric for over one stitching! I also stitched a "dedication" to the bottom of the box, to cover the signs of the box's previous life (pastille box).

The design on the bigger box is from Les Grilles de Maryse, the October cottage from her 2007 SAL. It is stitched on 32ct Belfast, Raw Natural. As the second set I sent needles and floss. The needles fit in the smaller box, the floss in the bigger one. I packed also the smaller box inside the big box for the trip.

Tässä siis Minnalle Pretty exchangesin vaihdossa lähettämäni kortti. Malli on osa Summer Sampleria, Cross Sticheristä (issue 148), pistelty dmc:n langoilla Legacy Linenin 30ct Soft Willow -kankaalle. Ja vaikka nuo lentävät ötökät kovasti näyttävät perhosilta, ne ovat oikeasti ampiaisia...


This is the card I sent to Minna in the exchange organized by Pretty Exchanges. The pattern is part of Summer Sampler from Cross Stitcher (UK), issue 148, stitched with dmc floss on Legacy Linen 30ct Soft Willow. And those flying things are bees, not butterflies...

Ensimmäinen syntymäpäivä / First birthday

Kummipojalla oli syntymäpäivä, hän täytti vuoden. Tein hänelle lahjaksi ruokalapun. Tai siis ruokalapun ostin valmiina ja kirjoin siihen nuo smurffikuviot...

My godson had his first birthday. I made him a bib, or rather I bought the bib and stitched the smurfs on it...

Korttitehdas / Card factory

Kesäkuussa tehtailin kortteja ihan urakalla. Ensin pääsi kummityttö ylioppilaaksi (hän kutsui meitä juhlimaan viikon kuluttua itse lakituksesta), sitten sai yksi serkku pojan ja parisen viikkoa myöhemmin toisenkin serkun perheeseen syntyi poika; tein vielä jälkimmäisen serkun vanhemmille onnittelukortin, he kun olivat lastenlasta odottaneet niin hartaasti. Vauvaonnittelukorttien mukana meni pienet sukat ja toiseen vielä pikkuriikkiset tumput. Nuo sukathan ovat Tuulan sukat (tunnetaan myös nimellä Junasukat), en valitettavasti löytänyt ohjesivua enää netistä. Tumppujen malli löytyi myös netistä, täältä.

Toisten sukkien väritys muodostui ihan sattumalta. Vanha lanka ei riittänyt molempiin sukkiin, mutta huomasin sen vasta siinä vaiheessa kun olin kutonut ensimmäisestä varren. Sitä ei ollut enää jäljellä niin paljon, että olisin saanut edes varren toiseen sukkaan... Niinpä jatkoin jalkaosaan uudella langalla (sama väri, eri sävy) ja tein sitten toiseen sukkaan varren uudella ja jalkaosan vanhalla langalla.

Ai niin, ja teinhän minä kortin myös työpaikalle henkilölle, jonka kanssa tein pienimuotoista, mutta mukavaa yhteistyötä ja joka siirtyy uusien haasteiden pariin.

In June I made cards and nothing but cards (at least it felt like that :-) First my goddaugher graduated, then a cousin had a baby boy. A couple of weeks later another cousin had a baby boy, too, and I also wanted to make a card for his parents as I knew they had been waiting for a grandchild for such a long time. I also knitted small socks to go with the cards and a pair of tiny mittens, too.

The colours in the other socks happened by chance. I didn't have enough yarn for both socks, and after knitting the cuff of the first sock, I noticed that I didn't have enough yarn to knit the other sock, not even just the cuff with the same colour. So I decided to knit the cuff on the first sock with old yarn and the foot with the new yarn and vice versa on the other sock.

Oh, and I also made a card for a person at work, who is leaving to take another position.

The socks go by the name Tuula's socks, or train socks, and they have such a lovely story. Unfortunately I didn't find the web page anymore.

Yksivärinen vaihto / Exchange with one colour

Lennun yksivärisessä vaihdossa sain Marjalta näin ihanan paketin:


Upea pussukka ja kaunis rengaskoriste! Tuo koriste on tehty tosi taitavasti yhden yli tiheälle kankaalle, ja on kertakaikkisen kaunis! Ja pussukka on sanoinkuvaamattoman upea! Pidän kovasti molemmista. Kiitos Marja tästä ihanasta paketista!



Oman vaihtoni tein Keijunliljalle. Hän kertoi lempiväreikseen vihreän ja turkoosin, ja yhdeksi lempiaiheekseen iirinkieliset toivotukset. Niillä tiedoilla lähdin sitten suunnittelemaan pakettia. Valitsin pistelyyn Pomme de Pinin käsinvärjätyn langan (Eau d'Ange), josta jätin sinisimmät osat pois. Vaihdon väriksi valikoitui turkoosi, kun löysin Atalien langan sävyyn sopivaa puuvillaista neulelankaa, josta neuloin pakettiin samanväriseksi kaveriksi pienen liinan.


Tekstin pistelyyn löysin netistä, suomeksi se tarkoittaa terveyttä ja siunausta. Mallin kirjaimiin sain täältä (Celtic alphabet genarator). Kehyksen mallin löysin myös netistä, täältä. Pistelin työn yhdellä säikeellä kahden langan yli 36ct pellavakankaalle. Oli tosi mukava suunnitella tätä vaihtoa, josta Keijunlilja ilokseni kertoi pitävänsä kovasti.




I received a lovely lilac package from Marja in a monochrome exchange. The tag is very skillfully stitched over one on a very dense fabric, it's absolutely beautiful! And the small bag is so gorgeous! I like them both a lot! Thank you so much, Marja!

My exchange went to Gloriosa. She told her favourite colours are green and turquoise and that one of her favourite themes is Celtic blessings and wishes. With that information I designed a small hanging for her. I chose Pomme de Pin's handdyed floss (Eau d'Ange; I just left the blue shades out) for the stitching and a turquoise cotton yarn for the knitted doily (the exchange consisted of a monochrome stitching and a surprise of the same colour).

I found the text on the net (it translates as Health and a blessing). The design for the letters came from Celtic alphabet generator. I found the design for the border also on the net, from Stitching the Night Away. I stitched this with one strand over two on a 36ct linen.
