Royal Guard & Anubis

Ostin viikolla uuden Cross Stitcherin (issue 242?), ja oli sitten ihan pakko pistellä saman tien lehden mukana tullut pikkupistely, Royal Guard. Tällä hetkellä se koristaa muiden magneettien kanssa jääkaapin ovea mökillä, mutta ehkäpä se muuttaa kotiin sitten syksyn tullen :-)

I bought the latest Cross Stitcher (issue 242?) earlier this week, and I just had to start right away the stitch kit that came with it. So now a Roayl Guard decorates the fridge together with other magnets at the summer house (he'll probably come home later in the autumn :-)

Yksi hassutuskin on edistynyt hieman. Niilin kartta on saanut ensimmäisen kuvan sekä hieman vettä :-)

One of the Crazy January Challenge starts has had progress. The Nile Map now has the first picture and some water, too :-)

Mökillä nukkuma-aittani oven pielessä on kesän ajan päivystänyt kaksi kaunista kassia, synttärilahjani. Ne ovat päässeet käyttöön aina tarpeen tullen.

At the summer house, I've had these beautiful bags (my birthday presents); I've been using them every now and then.

Tässä kesäherkkuni, satoa on saanut jo reilun viikon, nam! Ja lisää on toivottavasti vielä luvassa, raakileita on *paljon*.

My summer treat, yammy tomatoes! And there's plenty of greens waiting to ripen (is that how you say it in English?)

Ja edelleen otan mielelläni vastaan ehdotuksia Miss Parisin viimeistelyyn, jokunen houkutteleva on jo tullutkin. 

And although there's already some food for thought for finishing Miss Paris, ideas are still welcome.

Mam'zelle

Miss Paris -mallin pistot valmistuivat jo jokin aika sitten, mutta sydänten ompelu vaatikin aikaa (piti pistellä ja viimeistellä yksi vaihto ennen sitä). Tein siis pilven ristipistoilla, mutta sydämet päätinkin leikata huovasta ja ommella paikoilleen.

Vielä tämä pitäisi viimeistellä. Sain mallin syntymäpäivälahjaksi Outilta, ja mukana tuli myös kangasta viimeistelyyn. Haluaisin sen käyttää, mutta tekisinkö tästä tyynyn vai jotain muuta? Olisiko teillä ideoita? Pistelyn koko on n. 20x15cm.

I finished stitiching Miss Paris already a while ago, but only managed to attach the hearts today (I had to stitch and finish an exhange in the meantime).  I stitched the cloud, but decided to cut the hearts from felt, and sew them on.

I received the chart from Outi for my birthday and she also sent some fabric for the finishing. I would like to use it, but how should I finish this? As a pillow or something else? Ideas are very welcome! The size of the stitiching is about 20x15cm (8x6 inches)

Kuvausassistentti oli mukana tälläkin kertaa, mutta löysi mielenkiintoisempaa tekemistä :-)

Eilen kävelimme Aapon kanssa lyhyehkön lenkin (kuuma tuli silti!) ihastelemaan mökkinaapurin apilapeltoa. Tämän ohi ajamme joka kerran kun mökille tulemme tai sieltä poistumme. Pelto jatkuu saman verran kumpareen toisella puolella.... Tuoksu on kertakaikkiaan huumaava!

Maisemat ovat muutoinkin mukavat... (kaikki kuvathan saa siis klikattua suuremmiksi :-)

Yesterday I made a short walk (it was so hot in the sun!) with Aapo, to admire the lovely clover field of the next door neighbor at our summer house. We drive past the field everytime coming or going to the cottage. The field continues on the other side of the hill... The scent is so lovely!

The scenery around our cottage is lovely as well... (remember that you can click on all pictures to make them larger :-)

Kortti / A card

Läheinen työkaveri täytti pyöreitä alkukuusta, ja halusin tehdä hänelle juhlan kunniaksi kortin. Kukkavarret poimin Kirsin ilmaismallista (olen niitä käyttänyt aikaisemminkin), ja kukiksi tein tällä kertaa erikoispistoja.

A collegue at work had birthday at the begining of July and I wanted to stitch her a card. The stems are from Kirsi's freebie (I've used it also earlier) and the flowers are made with specialty stitches.

Touko-kesäkuun vaihteessa ensimmäistä kertaa kukkineet pilvikirsikkapuut (niitähän on kaksi) eivät vielä tee kovin runsasta satoa, tämä on ainokainen löytämämme marja. Mikähän lintu sen ensimmäisenä huomaa ;-)

The pin cherry which bloomed in late May and early June for the first time will not provide a big crop the first year as this is the only berry we've found in the two trees. I wonder which bird will find it first ;-)

Viikonloppuna / Last weekend

Pääsin parin viikon sairauslomatauon jälkeen mökille viime viikonvaihteessa. Paljon oli luonnossa tapahtunut.

I got to visit the summer house after a long (two-week :-) break due to my illness. Plenty had been happening in the nature.

Pilvikirsikka oli jo suurelta osalta kukkinut. Tämä oli sen ensimmäinen kukinta, kaksi pikkupuuta istutettiin viime vuonna. / Pin cherry (Prunus pensylvanica) had almost finished with the blooming. This was the first blooming, two small trees were planted last summer.

Herukka lupaa hyvää satoa, ja juhannusruusu runsasta kukintaa. / Looks like there'll be plenty of black currants later in the summer, and the midsummer rose (Rosa pimpinellifolia) has plenty of buds as well.

Myös mänty kukkii runsaasti. / Also the pine tree blooms.

Syreeni oli juuri aukaisemassa nuppujaan, tuoksu oli huumaava. / Lilac had just started opening the buds, what a lovely fragrance it gave.

Aapo seurasi kuvauspuuhiani, mutta jossain vaiheessa sitä ilmeisesti alkoi kyllästyttämään. Koivun alla oli mukavampaa... / Aapo kept me company when I went around photographing, but at some point he got bored, I think. It was so much nicer to just sit under the birch tree...

Huhuu? / Hello?

Juu, täällä ollaan. Taisi kevätväsymys iskeä. Ja lastentauti myös. Josko siis aloittaisi varovaisesti ja kokeilisi bloggaamista ihan pienesti näin alkuun... ;-) Tässä seuraavaa osaa odotellessa: Star Sampler osaan 4 asti.

Yes, I'm still here. Spring fatigue hit me, I think, together with something else, I've been sick the past week or so. So I think I'm going to take it easy and continue blogging little by little... ;-) Here's the Star Sampler up to part 4, part 5 will be published soon.

Toinenkin viikonloppu... / Another weekend...

...tai sunnuntai itseasiassa, joka meni ulkoillen, perinteistä pääsiäisen pilkki- ja ulkoilupäivää viettäen; nyt hieman ennen pääsiäistä, ihan turvallisuussyistä :-) Sää suosi; tuuli tosin oli kova, mutta aurinko lämmitti. Jään pinta oli jo pehmoista, mutta näkyi sitä jäätä vielä ihan riittävän paksu kerros olevan, kun avantoon kurkkasi (oman mielenrauhani vuoksi niin pitikin tehdä ;-).

Aapo selvästi tunnisti paikan, ja nautti vapaana olemisesta ja jäällä juoksemisesta ja tietenkin makupalojen kerjäämisestä. Ja tällä kerralla se ei halunnut tyytyä vain yhteen kalaan, vaan yritti viedä serkultani koko pussillisen. Ei onneksi onnistunut...

...or actually Sunday, which was spent outdoors, as it was time for our traditional Easter ice fishing and outdoors day. A bit ahead of Easter this time, just for safety reasons :-) The weather was beautiful, though there was a strong wind, but the sun was warm. The surface of the ice was already a bit soft and slushy, so rubber boots were needed. But the ice cover was still thick enough, when observed though a hole in the ice (which I really needed to do for the sake of my peace of mind ;-). 

Aapo clearly recognized the place, and enjoyed very much running free on the ice and begging treats when we were eating our "picnic" lunch. And this time he didn't want to settle on catching only one fish, he tried to steal the bag of fishes from my cousin. Luckily he didn't succeed...

Syksyn töitä / Finished in autumn

Hupsistaheijaa, ja tulikin taas pitkä tauko bloggailuun... Syytä en tiedä, olisiko pitkä pimeä syksy uuvuttanut? Mutta josko nyt sitten olisi viimeinkin aika esitellä joitakin syksyn aikana valmistuneita töitä.

Hello after a long while... might it have been the long and dark autumn that got to me or why haven't I blogged in such a while? But here are finally finishes from past autumn.

Lokakuussa lähetin synttäriswap-paketin Jaanalle. Kokosin paketin keittiöteemalla, pisteltävän pyyhkeen lisäksi meni mallikirjanen sekä pari pisteltyä muffinsia. Kortin malli on Margaret Sherryn J is for Jaguar, muistaakseni Cross Stitcher -lehdestä.

In October I sent a birthday swap to Jaana. I collected the package with a kitchen theme, there was a stitchable tea towel, a DMC booklet and a couple of stitched cupcakes. The design for the card is J is for Jaguar by Margaret Sherry, from Cross Stitcher UK magazine, I think.

Pistelin samantien useammankin muffinsin, kaksi niistä jo esittelinkin edellisessä postauksessa. Kaksi meni nuorelle serkulle synttärilahjaksi (hän näki kun pistelin Jaanan lahjoja ja sanoi, että haluaisi itselleen tuon nallen ja hämähäkinseitin; mitäs kiltti serkkulikka sitten muuta kuin pistelemään, synttärit kun olivat jo ihan nurkan takana, vaihdoin hänelle menneisiin muffinseihin viimeistelyssä nuppineulat nappeihin). Ja loput kolme jäivät itselleni koristeiksi. Mallithan olivat siis The Cat's Whiskersin Cupcakes, Glorious Cupcakes -vihkosesta.

And while I was at it, I stitched some more cupcakes (two of these were already shown in previous post). Another two were birthday presents for my young cousin who saw me stitching Jaana's presents and said that she would like to have a bear and a spider's web. What's a nice cousin :-) to do other than grant the wish and stitch her the desired cupcakes as birthday presents, seeing that the birthday was looming in very near future. I just changed buttons to replace the pins in her cakes. And the last three cupcakes were for me. All the designs are from The Cat's Whiskers' Cupcakes, Glorious Cupcakes booklet.

Marraskuussa kudoin itselleni kämmekkäät, jotka vein sitten töihin. Minua palelee siellä aina talvisin, ja käteni ovat olleet töissä kylmät päivittäin, joten nämä tulivat tarpeeseen. Malli on nettilehti Ullasta, Marylka nimeltään. Lanka on Novitan Saana.

 

In November I knitted fingerless mittens. I took them to work. I'm always feeling cold there in winter, and my hands are so cold daily so these were desperately needed. The design is Marylka from the Finnish webzine Ulla, yarn is Novita Saana.

Edellämainittu nuori serkkuni oli pyytänyt äitiäni kutomaan yhdelle hänen pehmoeläimelleen asusteita talvea varten. Koira on n. 20 cm korkea. Tässä lopputulos, aika kivan näköiset, eikö vain? Myssy, huivi ja takki.

The above mentioned young cousin had asked my mother to knit some winter clothes to one of her stuffed animals (the dog is about 20cm/8" high). Here's the result, aren't they nice, the hat, the scarf and the coat?

Kävin tänään ulkoilemassa Aapon kanssa mökillä, Aapo nautti vapaana olemisesta. Maisemakin on niin ihanan näköinen tällä hetkellä, ei hetkeen haitannut kylmyyskään (hui miten kylmä pohjoistuuli tänään onkaan puhaltanut).

I went for a walk with Aapo at our (summer) cottage today, Aapo enjoyed running free. The scenery is so lovely, we got a very early winter this year, I didn't even mind the cold weather when watching the lovely scene (there has been this very nasty north wind today).

Valmistuneita / Finishes

Tässäpä muutama kesän aikana valmistunut työ. 
Here are few finishes from last summer.

Sepe-nalle valmistui syntymäpäivälahjaksi kummipojalle. Ohje on neulelehti Ullasta. Nallen naamaan en ole täysin tyytyväinen. Nappisilmät olisivat voineet parantaa asiaa, mutta kaksivuotiaalle ei sellaisia oikein viitsinyt laittaa tarjolle...

Sepe bear was a birthday present for my godson. The pattern is from the Finnish knitting webzine Ulla. I wasn't quite content with the face of the bear. Maybe eyes made from buttons would have been better, but I didn't think them suitable for a two-year-old.

Seuraavaksi valmistui kassi. Tai kassinpäällinen, jonka "vuori" on ihan tavallinen kangaskassi. Malli on Novitasta, Kesä 2010 lehdestä ja lanka niinikään Novitan, Puro Batik. Kassista tuli aivan ihana ja se toimii yhtenä projektikassina...

Next finish was a bag. Or rather the cover for a cloth bag. The pattern is from the Finnish magazine Novita, Summer 2010 and yarn from Novita as well, Puro Batik. The bag turned out very lovely, and it is now one of my project bags...

 Elokuussa valmistui toinen tupla-Chatelaine, eli Mini Mystery H (Amethyst) toiselle tädille syntymäpäivälahjaksi. Minimysteerin mukana tulleesta tryout-mallista tein perinteisesti kortin. Kuvassa sekä viisi vuotta sitten itselleni tekemä työ että lahjaksi mennyt. Huomasin kuvaa ottaessani, että tuossa omalla seinällä olevasta työstä puuttuu muutama pisto... (huomaattekohan mistä ne puuttuvat).

In August I finish another second Chatelaine, Mini Mystery H (Amethyst), which was a birthday present for another aunt. The tryout design that came with the Mini Mystery was used to make a card, as usual... In the picture there are both the first finish from five years ago, which hangs on my walls and the one made as a present. When I took the picture, I noticed that the one on my wall is missing a few stitches... (try if you can find where).

Sitten takaisin luonnon pariin. Kärpässienet ovat aivan ihania, siis katsella :-) Ne ovat ainoita sieniä, jotka tunnistan,  korvasienen lisäksi. Siksipä en sieniä syö...

Alla kuva, joka oli jo edellisessä postauksessa. Toisessa kuvassa on sama sieni seuraavana päivänä ja kolmannessa kuvassa viikon kuluttua. Lisäksi tarkempi kuva yhden sienen lakista sekä kuva pienestä "sieniperheestä".
  

Now back to the nature. Toadstool (Amanita muscaria) is pretty to watch, but not meant for eating as it's poisonous. It is however one of the mushrooms I recognize (the other one is false morel, gyromitra esculenta). And that's why I don't eat mushroom...

The first picture was shown also in the previous post, the second photo shows the same mushroom a day later and in the third photo it is a week later. I also photographed the cap of one mushroom, 'cause it just is so pretty :-) and there's also a photo of a small "family" of mushrooms.

Seuraavat kuvat pitää ehdottomasti klikata suuremmiksi, jotta niistä näkisi mitään... Kurjet tekivät muuttoa, ja lensivät isoina auroina taivaalla. Toinen parvi vielä hieman etsi suuntaa ja  ryhmittymistä.

The cranes moved to south and flew above the summer house in big flocks. The other one of the flocks was still searchin where to go and how to do it... You have you click the photos to see them larger, otherwise you probably don't see a thing :-)
