Täällä ollaan / I'm still here

Hupsista sentään, tulipas pitkä tauko! Töihin paluu elokuun puolivälissä vei voimat ilmeisestikin :-) Mutta tässä vielä muutamia muistoja kesältä...

Whoops, I've been silent quite a while! Apparently returning to work after the holidays made me too tired :-) Here's  some memories of the summer.

Kesällä saapuneet vaihdot piristivät aittaani mökillä.

I kept the exchanges that arrived during the summer at the summer house.

 

Aapo nautti kesästä mökillä, mutta kotiinpaluukin sujui ongelmitta. Lenkit menivät ensialkuun pääsiassa siten, että koira haisteli ja emäntä seisoskeli :-)

Aapo enjoyed the summer at the summer house, but didn't have any problems returning home. At first the walks were mainly just the dog sniffing and me standing still :-)

Syyskuu alkoi kauniina, ensimmäinen päivä oli lämmin ja aurinkoinen. Iltalenkillä törmäsin näin kauniiseen "kuvaan", onneksi olimme lähestulkoon kotona, joten valokuvan ottaminen onnistui hyvin lenkin jälkeen.

September started sunny and warm, and when I returned from the evening walk with the dog, I saw this pretty sight. Luckily we were near home, so I returned to take photographs after taking the dog home.

Kesäkausi päättyi mökillä komeasti kokolla (juhannuksena kun sitä ei päässyt polttamaan).

The summer season ended with a beautiful bonfire (since we couldn't burn it at Midsummer).

Toki vielä viihdymme mökillä viikonloppuisin. Aapo nauttii viilentyneistä keleistä ja vapaana olemisesta.

Of course we still spend the weekends at the summer house. Aapo enjoys the cooler days and being free.

Nämä komeat sienet saavat onneksi olla koiralta rauhassa :-)

These pretty mushrooms luckily stay safe, the dog is not interested in them :-)

Käsitöiden saralla on toki jotain valmistuneita, ja myös edistystä vanhoissa. Esittelen niitä sitten seuraavissa postauksissa.

I've finished some knitting, crocheting and cross stitch projects, and progressed with wips. I'll show them in the following posts.

Luonnonvoimat / Forces of nature

Lomailen yhä pääasiassa mökillä, mutta menin eilen käymään kotona. Yöllä ukkonen herätti, mutta tänään ei myrskyrintama aamun vesisadetta ja iltapäivän voimakasta tuulta lukuun ottamatta vaikuttanut (toisella puolella kaupunkia ilmeisesti satoi enemmänkin).

Kun palasin mökille, kuulin, että ohi oli pyyhkäissyt raekuuro, joka oli myös jättänyt jälkensä valokatteeseen...

I'm on holiday and staying mostly at the summer house, but went home yesterday. A thunderstorm woke me up last night, but the storm area that passed through Finland today only brought some rain in the morning, and in the afternoon the wind was quite strong (on the other side of the town it rained quite a lot though).

When I returned to the summer house today, I heard that a hail storm had passed through and left it's marks on the veranda's cover...

Viime viikolla pääsin todistamaan Asta-myrskyn voimakkuutta paikan päällä, tosin sitä ei tuolla nimellä taideta Venäjällä tuntea... Olin kotiseutumatkalla Karjalan kannaksella, ja olimme illalla saapuneet majoituspaikkaan. Hieman puolenyön jälkeen heräsin valtavaan kohinaan. Salamoi jonkin verran, joten luulin ensin että sataa. Sitten näin kuinka puut taipuivat kaksinkerroin ja kuulin jatkuvaa pauketta ja poksetta. En ole sellaista myrskyä ennen kokenut. Huh! Salamat välkkyivät jatkuvalla syötöllä, välillä niin voimakkaasti että silmiin sattui...

Aamulla sitten paljastuivat myrskyn jäljet... Sitkeinä sisseinä pääsimme kyllä perille kotikylälle, mutta ennen matkaa tehdyt suunnitelmat tietenkin muuttuivat. Matkakuvatkin olivat tällä kertaa hieman erilaisia...

(Sitkeät sissit myös pärjäsivät liki vuorokauden ilman sähköä ja juoksevaa vettä, todellinen extreme-matka siis tällä kertaa :-)

A huge storm passed through Finland last week. It came from Russia, Karelian isthmus, where I was travelling at the time... I was visiting the ceded areas from where my father's family is from (for those interested there's some background info about the area and history here). We had arrived in the evening and I had just fallen asleep when I was woken up by a loud noice. Seeing the lightning I first thought it rained. But then I saw the trees all bend strongly and heard the continuous cracks and pops. I've never before seen such a storm! The lightning was constant, at times even hurting the eyes with it's intensity...

In the morning we saw what the storm had done... But being such resilient travelers, were made it to our final destination, but of course all the plans had to be changed and also the pictures from the journey were a bit different this time...

(These resilient travelers also made it almost 24 hours without electricity and running water, so it was a bit more extreme experience this time :-)

Aapo was a bit intimidated by the big waves caused by the strong wind today...

Tuulinen hellepäivä / Hot windy day

Lämpötila on tänään hiponut kolmeakymmentä, voimakkaasta tuulesta huolimatta. Joku pikainen sadekuuro päivällä kasteli tehokkaasti, mutta lähes yhtä tehokkaasti tuuli kuivatti. Ukkosta emme ole tänään nähneet.

Today has been a hot (nearly 30C, 85F), the strong wind has not cooled the air. There was a very brief rain shower earlier in the afternoon, but the wind dried everything very efficiently. We have not had thunder storms, they were forecast to other parts of the country.

Chatelaine-vaihto / Chatelaine exchange

Kesäkuussa osallistuin Chatelainen keskustelupalstalla järjestettyyn Chatelaine-vaihtoon. Tässä vaihdossa piti ensin viimeistellä vapaavalintainen pikkutyö käyttäen jotain Chatelainen malleista, tai osia niistä, ja sen jälkeen ilmoittautua vaihtoon.

In June I participated in an Chatelaine exchange organized in the Chatelaine BB. In this smalls exchange you first needed to finish something, using a Chatelaine design, or parts of them, and then sign up in the exchange.

Julie USA:sta lähetti minulle upean tyynyn, johon hän oli pistellyt granaattiomenan viipaleen Orangerie Quilt -mallista. Pistely on kiinnitetty tyynyyn nauhoilla, nerokas viimeistely!

Mukaan sai halutessaan laittaa jotain muutakin. Julie lähetti minulle tuollaisen erittäin hyödyllisen pikkulaatikon "Really Useful Box", joka soveltuu moneen käyttöön, ja jonka sisältä löytyi vielä Kreinikin lankaa ja magneetti. Hän lähetti myös infoa granaattiomenan historiasta ja pari reseptiä. Kiitos kovasti, Julie!

Julie, in USA, sent me this gorgeous pillow, in which she had stitched a pomegranate slice from the Orangerie Quilt design. The stitching is attached to the pillow with the ribbons, really clever!

It was also allowed to send something extra if wanted, and Julie sent me a very useful "Really Useful Box", inside of which there were also some Kreinik floss and a magnet. She also enclosed information about pomegranate, and some recipies, too. Thank you so much, Julie!

Oman vaihtoni, koristeen, jonka tein minimysteerien F ja G (Rubiini ja Safiiri) kokeilumalleista lähetin Annettelle USA:han. Mukaan laitoin muutaman tokan lankaa.

I used the tryout desings from Mini Mysteries F and G (Ruby and Sapphire) to finish an ornament, which I sent to Annette in USA. I also sent her some floss.

Ihana kesä / Wonderful summer

Lennun ristipistovaihtojen Ihana kesä -vaihdossa sain Kirsiltä näin ihanan kukkalähetyksen! Vaihdossa oli tarkoitus pistellä joku Little House Needleworksin, Country Cottage Needleworksin tai Tralalan malli tai osa siitä.

Kirsi oli käyttänyt LHN:n Garden Pleasure ja Rose Sampler -malleja, ja oli ideoinut niistä uudenlaisia viimeistelyjä. Nämä ovat niin ihania! Mukana oli myös vinkkejä siitä kuinka malleja voisi käyttää.

In Lennu's cross stitch exchanges' Wonderful summer exchange I received this lovely flowery package from Kirsi! The exchange was for designs (or parts of them) from Little House Needleworks, Country Cottage Needleworks or Tralala.

Kirsi used LHN's designs Garden Pleasure and Rose Sampler, and finished them a bit differently than usually. They are so lovely! She even included some examples on how to use them.

Oma pakettini meni puolestaan Kirsille. Pistelin Country Cottage Needleworksin Country Cottage Kids -sarjan She Sells Seashells -mallin ja viimeistelin sen tyynyksi. Kokeilin ensimmäisen kerran pitsin kiinnittämistä tyynyn reunaan, ja ihan mukavastihan se meni :-)

My package went to Kirsi. I stitched her Country Cottage Needleworks' Country Cottage Kids series design She Sells Seashells and finished it as a pillow. This was the first time I added a lace around the pillow, and it wasn't as difficult as I had feared :-)

Juhannus / Midsummer

We're celebrating Midsummer on Friday and Saturday, so with this delicate Midsummer's rose I wish you all beutiful Midsummer days!

Synttäriswappi, osa 3 / Birthday swap, vol 3

Toisen synttäripaketin sain Heidiltä (ei blogia). Kiitos kovasti Heidi, tykkään kovasti tästäkin paketista, eikä haitannut yhtään, että se myöhästyi, päinvastoin, se piristi surullista päivää kovasti!

I received the second birthday swap package from Heidi (no blog). Thank you so much Heidi, I like the package a lot, and do not worry about it arriving late, it really brightened up my sad day!

Paketista paljastui kaikenlaista mukavaa, pistelijälle tarpeellista: kangasta, lankaa, helmiä ja niiden kiinnitystarvikkeita... Suklaa oli muuten tosi maukasta, nam! Ilonhihkaisuja aiheutti kirjanmerkin löytyminen paketista. Siihen on yhdistetty kivasti yhden suosikkisuunnittelijani, Teresa Wentzlerin, malleja. Olen pitkään miettinyt ja suunnitellut kirjanmerkkien pistelemistä, sillä koko ajan tuntuu olevan useampi kirja kesken... Tämä meni siis heti käyttöön!

There were lots of useful things for a stitcher: fabric, floss, beads etc... By the way, the chocolate was so delicious, yam! There was a scream of joy when I saw the bookmark. It has been so well done, using two different designs of one of my favourite designers, Teresa Wentzler. I've been thinking and planning on stitching bookmarks for myself, as I seem to have several books on the go all the time... So this one found a book immediately!

Miksi tuo päivä oli surullinen? Siksi, että olin silloin hautajaisissa.
Why was that day sad? Because I went to a funeral then.

Synttäriswappi, osa 2 / Birthday swap, vol 2

Omat synttäritkin osuvat näin kesäkuulle, ja loppuviikosta sainkin Pirreltä synttäriswapissa upean paketin. Tykkäsin siitä kovasti, kiitos Pirre!

My birthday is in June, too, and earlier this week I received a great package from Pirre. I like it a lot, thank you Pirre!

Nuo Bent Creekin mallit ovat tosi ihania, ja tuohon pyyhkeeseen jo pistelin mielessäni useammankin kuvion :-)

The Bent Creek designs are so lovely, and I already stitched (in my mind) many different designs on the towel :-)

Synttäriswappi / Birthday swap

Ristipistoilijat-blogin synttäriswapissa lähetin paketin Tarjalle.

Keräsin pakettiin kesäisiä kukkaisia juttuja.

Atalien malli Eloïse sai seurakseen pistelyssä tarvittavat langat sekä hmm, sattuman oikeusta, parikin vaihtoehtoa kankaaksi, aidan ja pellavan, jotta pistelijällä on valinnanvaraa :-) Laitoin pakettiin myös kukansiemenpusseja sekä aurinkoisia nameja. Kukkia meni myös maljakossa, ne voi käyttää askarteluun, viimeistelyyn tms.

Korkeus/Height: n. 12,5cm /ca. 5"

Tämä oli ensimmäinen kerta kun viimeistelin 3D-pistelyn. Alla on se mistä lähdin liikkeelle. Tosi kiva tätä oli tehdä ja yllättävän mukava kootakin :-) Periwinkle muuten tarkoittaa talviota tai pikkutalviota.

Kortiksi pistelin paketin päälle tagin.

Malli/Design: Toile de Jouy (The Nutmeg Company)

In Ristipistoilijat (Cross Stitchers, Finnish blog open for members only) blog's birthday swap I sent a present to Tarja. I collected summer-y, flowery things in the package.

Atalie's design Eloïse was accompanied with floss needed to stitch the design and hmm, by some chance, couple of choices for fabric, aida and linen. I also sent some flower seeds and sunny candy. There were also some flowers in the vase, they can be used for e.g. crafts.

This was the first time I finished a 3D design. There's also a photo of the stitching before I put the vase together. It was really nice to stitch, and surprisingly nice to put together :-) (Photos of periwinkle for those interested here.)

I also stitched a card, the tag that was outside the package.
