Äitienpäivä / Mother's Day

Tänä vuonna äiti saikin ranskankielisen kortin, postikorttimuodossa. Malli on Les Grilles de Marysen blogista. Se huokuu ihanaa vanhanajan tunnelmaa. Kortissa on teksti: Äiti on kuin ruusu, joka ei koskaan kuihdu. Kortin taustalle kirjailin pienen ruusun sekä yksinkertaisen onnittelutekstin.

This year my mother received a Mother's Day card in French. The design is from Les Grilles de Maryse's blog and I think that it has a really lovely feeling of old times. The text says: A mother is like a rose that never fades. On the back of the card there's a small rose and text: On Mother's Days 2010.

Palkinto / Prize

Neilin blogissa oli arvonta, ja minä olin toinen onnekkaista voittajista. Perjantaina hain postista näin upean palkinnon:

Paketin sisältö suorastaan huusi että se tahtoo mökille kesäksi, ja niinpä sen sinne vein (Geishaa lukuunottamatta, se hävisi käsittämättömän nopeasti parempiin suihin heti kuvan ottamisen jälkeen :-) Näillä eväillä kelpaa saunoa. Huomatkaa muuten tuo kaunis pitsi pyyhkeessä, Neili on kiinnittänyt siihen luultavasti äitinsä tai isoäitinsä virkkaaman pitsin.

Neili had a draw in her blog and I was one of the lucky winners. The contents of the package told me that they want to go to the summer cottage for the summer, so that's where they ended up (except the chocolate bar which disappeared extremely fast after taking the picture :-).  These will be put to good use whenever I'm going to take a sauna. Please note the beautiful lace that Neili has sewn into the towel, it has been crocheted probably by her mother or grandmother.

Keväisenkesäinen biscornu / Spring biscornu

Ristipistoilijat-ryhmän biscornuvaihdossa sain Mialta näin aurinkoisen keväisen biscornulähetyksen. Tämä on tosi ihana, kiitos kovasti, Mia!

Mian koirat taisivat lähettää biscornun mukana Aapolle terveisiä, koska se haisteli (tai yritti, pidin varani, ettei se päässyt liikaa koskemaan) biscornua niin tarkasti :-)

Tekemäni biscornu meni Virpille. Tein The Floss Boxin ilmaismallin, pohjaan pistelin pienen osan samasta mallista.

There was a spring biscornu exchange in a Finnish cross stitchers group. I received the sunny and lovely biscornu from Mia. It's beautiful, thank you so much, Mia!

Mia's dogs probably sent their hellos to Aapo with the biscornu, as he sniffed (or tried to, I was taking care that he didn't touch the biscornu too much) it very thoroughly :-)

I made one for Virpi. The design is a freebie from The Floss Box, and I stitched parts of it to the back of the biscornu, too.

Madonna

Tällaisen synttärilahjan minulta sai liian monta vuotta (isosiskon mielestä ;-) täyttänyt veljeni. Ei liene vaikea arvata, että hän on Madonna-fani...? Ohje on kirjasta Knitted Icons (Carol Meldrum), lanka Novitan seiskaveikkaa ja Woolia sekä jämää. Itsekoottu kortti tietenkin teemaan sopiva. Huom, pakettikin on itse tehty :-) Minä ainakin tykkään kovasti!

This is the birthday present my brother got on his birthday (when he turned too many years, at least that's what the big sister thinks ;-). Not hard to guess he's a Madonna fan...? The design is from the book Knitted Icons (Carol Meldrum), yarn from Novita (7 Veljestä and Wool) plus old leftovers. The self-made card goes with the theme of course. And please note that the packing is self-made as well :-) I like it a lot!

Puolitoista valmista / One and a half finishes

Kokonaan valmistui The Sampler Girlin On the Moors with Emily Brontë. Tämä oli tosi nopea pistely, vaikkakin sitä yli puoli vuotta pistelinkin :-) Tyynyksi tämä pääsee heti kun vain ennätän ajatella muuta kuin syntymäpäivälahjojen tekemistä... Tämä mallihan on The Gift of Stitching -lehden heinkuun 2009 numerosta.

One finish is The Sampler Girl's On the Moors with Emily Brontë. It was really quick to stitch although it took me over six months to finish :-) It will end up as a pillow when ever I'll have time to think other than knitting and stitching birthday presents... The design is from The Gift of Stitching magazine's July 2009 issue.

Puolikas valmistunut on sitten tämä smurffiaiheinen työ, jonka neljästä smurffista kaksi on nyt valmiina. Tämäkin päätynee tyynyksi, kun sen joskus saan valmiiksi. Mallit ovat DMC:n kirjasta Les schtroumpfs au point de croix (Marie Pieroni).

 Half a finish is this project with the smurfs. Two out of four smurfs are now ready. This will probably end up as a pillow once finished. The designs are from a DMC book Les schtroumpfs au point de croix (Marie Pieroni).

Vielä pääsiäiskoristeista / About the Easter ornaments

Pääsiäisen jälkeinen viikko on mennyt hiljaiselossa, mikä lie flunssanpoikanen on vetänyt niin puolikuntoiseksi, että hyvä jos on jaksanut neulaa käteen ottaa iltaisin...

Mutta tässä siis tarkempaa tietoa tuossa edellisessä postauksessa olleista pääsiäiskoristeista. Chatelainen tämän vuoden pääsiäisfreebie löytyy Chatelainen blogista. Pistelin sen suosituksen mukaisesti tummalle kankaalle (taitaa olla 30ct pellavaa).

The Prairie Schoolerin freebie on esiintynyt aika monessa blogissakin, ja se onkin suloinen pieni malli, joka on nopea pistellä.

Kolmanneksi koristeeksi ehdin vielä pistellä tuon pupun, jonka malli löytyi täältä.

Ja tässä vielä koristeiden taustat.

I've been quite tired after Easter, a flu is trying to "bug" me. I've been nearly too tired to even pick up a needle in the evenings...

But here are finally the specs for the Easter ornaments that can be seen in the previous post. The Chatelaine Easter freebie can be found in Chatelaine's blog. I stitched it on a dark fabric (30ct linen, I think) according to recommendations. I've seen The Prairie Schooler freebie on many blogs, and it is such a sweet, tiny design, quick to stitch. Third ornament was a bunny and I found the chart here. The fourth photo shows the backs of the ornaments.

Ehdin myös virkata The Lion Brandin sivuilta löytämäni mallin Easter Bunny Basket. Se olikin mukava  projekti, ja suhteellisen nopeasti se valmistuikin.

I also had time to crochet an Easter Bunny Basket, I found the pattern on The Lion Brand's pages. It was a nice small project!

Vietimme pääsiäisenä jo perinteistä (siis järjestyksessään toista :-) pilkki- ja ulkoilupäivää pienen pienellä järvellä. Sää suosi ja jääkin oli loistavassa kunnossa vielä silloin, saalista ei kuitenkaan ilmeiseti tullut edellisvuoden tapaan. Aapo nautti ulkoilusta ja se taisi juosta useammankin kilometrin päivän aikana...

Olen jossain yhteydessä vuosia sitten nähnyt pilkkimisestä käytetyn englanninkielistä ilmaisua "lonely winter fishing", ja tämän kuvan nähtyäni ymmärsin termin paremmin :-)

Years ago, in some English text, I saw "lonely winter fishing" used instead of "ice fishing",  and after seeing this picture, I quite understand the term :-)

So we had our (second :-) annual Easter ice fishing and outdoors day on Easter Friday. The weather was gorgeous, and also the ice cover was good then (I wouldn't go to the ice anymore, it's been so warm this past week that the ice covers of the lakes have gotten too thin). Aapo had a blast and he must have run miles and miles on the ice.

Nuori serkkuni päätti kiivetä puuhun (ja pääsi myös alas ongelmitta). Aapon piti käydä ihmettelemässä tilannetta.

My young cousin decided to climb up a tree (he also got down without problems). Aapo was filled with wonder :-)

I would also like to thank for all the lovely comments that have been made! It is always so nice to read them, and they are so encouraging. There have been some questions in the comments, and I'm going to answer them finally now.

Mustalle (ja tummalle ylipäänsä) kankaalle pisteleminen on hirmuisen haastavaa. Se mikä minulla auttaa on kunnollinen valo. Mustalle kankaalle pisteleville on kaikenlaisia ohjeita (ohjaa valo paistamaan alhaalta päin, levitä valkoinen kangas (esim. tyynyliina) syliisi, niin näet kankaan reiät paremmin jne), mutta ne eivät oikein toimi minulla, sillä en käytä kehystä pistellessäni, vaan pidän työtä kädessä. Eli sormeni peittävät kankaan reiät... Mutta kunhan valaistus on kunnossa, niin pistelykin onnistuu, tosin hieman hitaammin kuin normaalisti.

Stitching on black (or dark ) fabric is truly challenging. The only thing that helps me is a good lightning. There are many different advice for stitching on black (put the light so that it comes from under the fabric, put a white fabric (e.g. a pillowcase) on your knees, so you can see the holes in the fabric better), but those don't work with me. I don't use a frame, but "stitch in hand", so my fingers cover the holes in the fabric... But as long as the lightning is goog, I manage, although stitching is a bit slower than usually.

Kesäkassi, johon tulee Margaret Sherryn kissoja, on sekin edistynyt hieman. Kissat ovat Cross Stitcher -lehden mukana tulleesta pikkukitistä, kaksi keinussa istuvaa somaa kissaa. Kesäkassi-nimen kassi on saanut siitä, kun pistelin sen toiselle puolelle myöskin Margaret Sherryn kissamallin pari kesää sitten. Projektikassina tämä minulla kulkee mukana.

The summer bag with Margaret Sherry's cats has had some progress as well. The design is from a small kit that came with Cross Stitcher (UK) magazine, there are two cute cats sitting on a swing. I call it the the summer bag, because I stitched another Margaret Sherry's cat desing on one side of the bag a couple of summers ago. It is my project bag, my small (and bigger, too) stitching projects go with me in the bag.

Sampler Girlin On the Moors -mallista kyseltiin myös, se on The Gift of Stitching -lehdestä, heinäkuun 2009 numerosta (se ei olekaan tuon edellisen kuvan ottamisen jälkeen ehtinyt edistyä enempää). Aion viimeistellä sen tyynyksi, niinkuin mallikin, olen jo hankkinut siihen kaiken tarvittavan materiaalin lehden kaupasta (tämän voi ottaa lupauksena, ja kovistella minua sitten joskus kun pistely on valmistunut :-)

The Sampler Girl design On the Moors has been published in The Gift of Stitching magazine, in July 2009 issue (there's no progress after the latest photo). I'm going to finish it as a pillow, as was also the model in the maganize (and please remind me of these words after I finish the stitching :-) I already bought all the necessary materials for it from the magazine's shop.

Kirjekuorivaihto / Mailart exchange

Lennun järjestämässä kirjekuorivaihdossa sain suloisen merenneitokuoren Marjalta. Malli on Little House Needleworkin. Mukana oli hauska kortti ja kaksi postimerkkiä sekä kirje Marjalta. Kiitos Marja, kuori on ihana!

I participated in Lennu's mailart exchange, and received this lovely mermaid from Marja. The design is from Little House Needleworks. Inside was a funny postcard, two stamps and a letter from Marja. Thank you so much, Marja, for this sweet mailart!

Oma kuoreni matkasi Taijalle. Löysin tuollaisia vanhoja venäläisiä malleja, ja siitä se sitten lähti. Tämä oli ensimmäinen tekemäni kuori, jonka suunnittelu ja viimeistely olivat toki vaativia, mutta jättivät kyllä mukavan jälkimaun :-)

Taija received the mailart I made. I found some old Russian designs and created the mailart using them. This was my first mailart, and even if designing and finishing it was quite a challenge, I am very pleased with it :-)

Loput wipit / Rest of the wips

Tässä sitten wippilistani loputkin projektit. Toista kierrosta olen menossa, ja vähän muutakin tehnyt tässä välissä, niistä kuvia sitten myöhemmin.

Here are the rest of the projects from my wip list. I started another round, and also finished something else in the meanwhile, too, but photos of those a bit later.

On the Moors with Emily Brontë (by Sampler Girl). Kahden tunnin pistelyn jälkeen/progress after two hours of stitching.

Paperiteline Joutsenet / paper storage Swans, 2 tuntia/hours.

Legends of the Dragons. 2 tuntia/hours.

Tämä on kolmen suunnittelijan yhteistyö: Teresa Wentzler, Jennifer Aikman-Smith (Dragon Dreams) ja Karen Weaver (Black Swan). Aloitin oikeasta reunasta, eli Teresa Wentzlerin suunnittelemasta lohikäärmeestä (tai reunustahan minä vielä pistelen).

This is a collaboration design of three designers: Teresa Wentzler, Jennifer Aikman-Smith (of Dragon Dreams) and Karen Weaver (of Black Swan). I started of the rightmost dragon (or rather, the border).

Viimeinen keskeneräinen työ onkin uusi alku, koriste (A Tudor Rose Valentine), jonka kanssa oli jos jonkinlaista ongelmaa... Aloitin sen ensin vahingossa yhden yli 40 ct kankaalle (!), ajattelin sitten sitkeästi tehdä sen sellaisena, kunnes huomasin, että siihen oli tullut virhe Purkaminen noin tiheästä kankaasta, varsinkin yhden yli, on melkoisen hankalaa, joten aloitin sen sitten alusta kahden langan yli. Siihen tuli vieläkin virheitä, mutta en taida niitä purkaa. Tai katsotaan kunhan otan sen esille seuraavan kerran... Kolmisen tuntia käytin tähän vaiheeseen päästäkseni.

The last of the wips is a new start, an ornament (A Tudor Rose Valentine). I had all kinds of trouble with this one. I started stitching it over one (on 40ct fabric!), by accident... but I thought I'd continue with it, until I noticed I'd made a mistake. Not quite easy to frog (rip) over one on 40 ct, so I started again, this time over two. I kept on doing mistakes, but I think I'm going to leave them, or maybe I'll start the next round by frogging... This is after about three hours of stitching.
